What to pack for College?

I’ll never forget my first day of class freshman year because I had one of the worst hangovers from the night before. My professor told us we had an assignment due the next day and I immediately said to myself, “Shit..already?” She told the class that the assignment was to go back to our dorm rooms and gather a bunch of items that were important to us. We had to put them in a shoebox and stand in front of the class and tell everyone why we chose each specific item that reflected our life. This seemed really stupid.

I went out that night, partied my ass off and didn’t come home until the sun was almost up. The next day, on my way to class, I realized I never did the assignment so last minute I ran back to my dorm and threw a bunch of things in a shoebox. My assignment was half completed. When it was my turn to present my items in front of everyone, I knew I was going to get a lot of different reactions. I showed them, a shot glass, a ping-pong ball, a beer mug, a bottle opener, Mario Kart 64 and a VHS of American Pie. This is all true.

The professor actually laughed her ass off and thanked me for being a little too honest. After class, my professor asked me why I brought those things in and I told her that I wasn’t done packing and they were the most important things in my dorm room. I really wasn’t done packing and one thing that every college freshman will learn is that most of the things your mom packs for you – don’t get used until you really need them. As the years go by it’s easier to see why the things I brought into my class that day were the most important to me at the time.

Don’t worry about packing towels, sheets, laundry detergent or a lot of bathroom supplies - mom’s love taking care of that stuff. Here’s a list of the most important things every guy should pack when he leaves for college:

- Enough Clothes – Make a good judgment and bring enough clothes with you to college. Bring clothes for going out, the gym and chilling in your dorm. You don’t want to be seen wearing the same clothes over and over and having to do laundry every other day.

- Accessories – Bring sandals for the shower because you never know what’s going down in there. All guys should also bring hats, sunglasses, ties and watches.

- Bathroom supplies – Here are some you can’t forget at home; a shaver for your face and a buzzer for manscaping, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste and cologne.

- Pillow – It sucks sleeping on clothes and you don’t want to borrow one of your roommate’s pillows.

- One extra bed sheet – Toga, Toga, Toga!!!

- Laptop – Get your mind out of the gutter, you need this to study - not look at porn.

- Condoms – Buy the big pack (20+). Probably the most important thing on this list.

- Drinking Accessories – More important than buying your books for class; Shot glasses, funnel/beer bong, beer Koozie, flask, beer mug, etc.

- Tylenol – For hangovers.

- Game System – PlayStation or an Xbox 360 will give you an excuse not to go to class. N64 is a classic game system that will never get old as well as my personal preference in game systems.

- TV – Any kind will do. Mine was about two feet thick and had a built in VHS player.

- DVD Player – I got sick of watching the same four movies on VHS.

- Good Movie Collection –All guys must have The Hangover, Old School, Superbad, American Pie, Super Troopers, Beerfest, etc.

- Cool Poster – Pick a cool poster to bring to college, like Jim Belushi chugging Jack Daniels wearing a COLLEGE shirt or anything to do with hot girls and beer. If you can’t find any cool posters there’s a good chance your school will have a poster sale the first week your there.

- Fake ID – Hide it somewhere safe so you don’t lose it or get it stolen from you.

- Costco Card – Costco is every college kid’s dream store - cheap food, beer and clothes. This is something you want to invest in. Look up the closest Costco to your school and if there isn’t one try Bj’s or Sam’s Club. You can find almost anything in these three places.

- Poster and Marker – For keeping tally of awesome shit that happens in your dorm. For example; who pukes the most, who sleeps with the most chicks, etc.

- Two decks of cards – King’s Cup and other drinking games will make you lose the first deck.

- iPod & Speakers – It gets the party started..and so you can dance with girls.

- Food That's Easy-to-Make – Easy Mac, Ramen Noodles, Ellio’s Pizza and frozen burritos are all available at Costco, Bj’s or Sam’s Club. You’re welcome.

- Outdoor games – For the nice days on campus. Bring a Frisbee, a Corn Hole set or anything you can have a catch with. If you’re real ballsy- bring a homemade beer pong table!
