Manwall's Top Movies of 2011

As the year ends we at Manwall would like to take a quick look back at the movies we enjoyed. If you missed them at the box office then they make a great DVD pick-up. No, you won't find any sappy chick-flicks or high drama artsy-fartsy stuff in our list; just some good old fashioned male grunting high quality movies. So move over Harry Potter and step aside teenage vampires with angst. This is a man's list.

Top Ten (in no particular order)

  1. Moneyball - Baseball, Brad Pitt, and a revolutionary book that was finally made into a damn fine movie. Okay so I guess we did pick one drama-ish movie. But it's about baseball!

  2. Limitless - Bradley Cooper stars with Robert DeNiro in this great movie about a guy who finally unlocks his potential with a slight pharmaceutical edge.

  3. Sherlock Holmes: The Game of Shadows - Robert Downey Jr. brings back the smart ass drunken detective with the amazing attention for detail and serious martial arts ability. High action and humor in this one.

  4. X-Men First Class - In a nice prequel conclusion a great cast and awesome special effects bring about a quality action blockbuster that all guys should enjoy. If not just drool on January Jones.

  5. The Hangover II - Hong Kong, facial tattoo, and a monkey. Do I really need to say much here? You know you are going to watch it if you haven't already.

  6. Bridesmaids - The chick flick that wasn't. It is an all girl type movie but with some serious raunchy comedy that guys will love.

  7. Warrior - This is an incredible story about a man doing what he has to do for his family. Awesome fighting scenes.

  8. Drive - An underrated movie that didn't do much at the box office, but is worth the watch. Incredible high speed chase scenes, a good plot, and a lot of action equal a great ride.

  9. Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol - Still in the theaters means you can watch it on an IMAX screen to fully enjoy the incredible action this flick packs. Add a solid plot and a nice hottie, stir and serve with ice.

  10. 13 Assassins - The lone entry on the Manwall list for foreign films goes to 13 Assassins. It is a Japanese time period flick with subtitles. Bored? You won't be. These guys have swords and like to use them. Incredible action and fighting will keep you engrossed.

Best of the Rest (movies we still love)

  • The Change Up (unrated) - You must watch the unrated version of this movie. It is so much funnier than the theater release.

  • Bad Teacher (unrated) - See comments above. Timberlake is hilarious and Diaz is still pretty hot.

  • Captain America - Super hero versus Nazi's. Need we say more?

  • Thor - Awesome action movie with some really funny lines and we love Natalie Portman.

  • Fast Five - Fast cars, fast action, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster (drool), Vin Diesel, and the Rock.
